There is a tremendous recording devices available to record the interviews, focus groups, conferences, etc. for transcription later, but this article aims to inform about the various options available to authors who are they and how are you (or not ) used to you as a person who has recorded for transcription. There is a wide range in price from less than 50 pounds to several hundred pounds, and this article aims to clarify which features are more expensiveand what to do. The various functions are first listed and then explained, and should not allow a machine to choose what is best for you and your transcriptionist. As any visit to a good website or a store that sells these machines shows, this is not an exhaustive list. This is a list of the most important point of view of transcription.

The various functions are: the recording quality Frequency Number of recording time, Computer Interface TypeChanging the recorded voice as the wind and add or delete some words, such as the recorder is in bold? Jack is back with a microphone Dimensions rrecognition speech software

Recording quality is generally indicated as SHQ – Stereo High Quality, HQ – high quality, SP (short) and LP (Long Play). SHQ is the best quality (and stereo of course), but it will take more memory, so you'll be able to absorb less of this institution. LP is the worst quality, but you can recordlonger. Mono is probably quite appropriate for an interview, but if you shoot a variety of people, for example, in a meeting of the conference focused, can be useful for a stereo recording. Stereo using a stereo microphone or an external microphone is necessary.

The different recording quality refers to the range of frequencies. The human ear can detect sounds in the range of about 20 Hz to 20 kHz. But what is the most commonfrequencies of speech? I want to know, but an incredible variety of reactions to a brief search on Google for them! I think it's pretty safe to say that somewhere around 250 Hz to 5 kHz, with the highest end, a woman's voice is sharp and the lower end, low-pitched one. And 'around this range you should look. There is a wide range of frequencies available in several different machines for registration, but, frankly, most of the records of a one-to-one or one-two-and-maintenanceacceptable quality at SP, and perhaps also with LP.

The extent of the recording time varies depending on the recording quality you select, so the measure of time is huge, so you really need to think about what your needs are. You may need a longer recording time when you will be examined at considerable length of time without access to computers to download files, or recording a lecture, especially if you want to use a high quality of the recordingfor this, which means you will have less time. If, however, is recording notes or dictation or one-on-one conversations, and often able to transfer data to your PC, no need to store large amounts of data on the machine. This is probably the factor that ensures the highest price differences, so you feel good and buy a machine that gives you more time if you need hours.

The computer interface is really an important consideration. If you plan toSend the recording to a transcriptionist to be transcribed, you have to download it to your PC first. They can then either e-mail (if is small enough, you can see file type), transferred via FTP, or in some cases, including my company Penguin Transcription through a window of files to be sent home transcriptionist's. Even if you plan to write files, even if it is a tedious job if you have to do directly from the know-taker 'as the fact that it is a "must" isDownload the interface is called. Ideal for recording, you will connect to the computer with USB interface, typically without any additional software or drivers required. Alternatively call through a door and comes with a CD with the managers concerned.

The specific type is another very important consideration, and is probably the most often overlooked. Examples include WAV (uncompressed, high quality, but great), WMA (Windows Media format, compressed, but reasonable qualityspeak), DSS (Olympus transcription properties file, but specially designed for highly compressed voice quality so good.) These are just some examples and you can review the details of a wider range of file types in my separate article on this site Digital Audio File Types to see transcripts. If you are sending files to a transcriptionist for transcription, you will be all the files are relatively small and can be sent via e-mail, but there are several ways to send larger filesanywhere. WAV files will not want to send only one time, it will take much space on your computer and the recorder. DSS and DVF files, for example, is much more convenient if they are small and compact, without blocking the server sends, and was immediately released.

Editing recorded voice will probably be even more important if you use the machine to take dictation, rather than an interview. When dictating letter, you might want to go back and removethe last words, and replace it with something else. The inclusion in the middle of the upper limit of the price range usually have this feature, but it is important that it is worthwhile to check if they have no chance of that.

As you take the power? Most writers are the battery, but if you're gong to be with the recorder which is essential to verify that you can rechargeable batteries, the use of a worthy environmental and cost! It isalso a consideration, as the size of your interest. In particular, the batteries can provide a significant weight. Most modern machines are quite capture the light and very discreet, too. If the weight is a concern to ensure that the weights include batteries.

Ask if the recorder has a microphone jack is an important factor, as well as the quality of Mike, allowing you to actually connect anything other than a person dictates of an outsidemicrophone is a necessity. Record an interview with internal microphone only the machine can give disappointing results. A bad recording will result in the worst case, a transcript of the poor, and at best a transcript costly, because it will take more time to implement! If the registration of a conference, you will have more of a microphone or a stereo microphone, as already mentioned the need.

Some authors associate with the voice recognition software. But there is still this kind of software isIndeed, only recording with a single voice dictation of notes. Even then, after a time and energy "training" the software required to use to recognize your voice, and follow closely the rewrite, since this will certainly be driving mistakes, especially in the noun (a word that sounds similar, but are written differently.) But if you want to use one of these packages have a feature that connects directly to your recorder is a useful addition.

This list is justThe main features in my eyes for the transcript of the interviews, dictation, focus groups and conferences. It has no relation to the inclusion of music as a wider frequency range and requires a number of other special considerations, but I hope it is useful to conduct research that requires rewriting.
